Batch of One

This is an expression coined by the Japanese and was first heard by Frank in the 1980s.

Most production lines make items in "batches" - multiple numbers of the same item. For example: A car production line is set up to make multiple versions of the same car, often with small variations.

With a "Batch of One" the production line (in theory atleast) could make any number of items, each totally different from the other.
